Neurodevelopmental Evaluations

Cognitive and Academic Testing is a comprehensive evaluation process designed to understand how an individual thinks, learns, processes information, and functions in daily life. Using a variety of standardized assessments, we examine areas such as attention, memory, executive functioning, language, problem-solving, learning, and academic achievement, as well as relevant emotional and behavioral factors that may impact functioning.

These evaluations provide valuable insight into an individual's cognitive strengths, learning profile, and areas of difficulty, helping to answer important diagnostic questions and clarify the factors contributing to academic, emotional, behavioral, or occupational challenges. The results can help identify conditions such as ADHD, learning disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and other concerns while also determining eligibility for accommodations, specialized services, or supports when appropriate.

Our goal is not simply to provide a diagnosis, but to offer a deeper understanding of each individual's unique strengths and challenges. Through personalized recommendations, we help create a practical roadmap for success at school, work, home, and in everyday life.

An assessment may be helpful for children, adolescents, or adults who are experiencing difficulties with attention, learning, academic performance, executive functioning, emotional regulation, behavior, social functioning, or developmental concerns. Evaluations are commonly sought to clarify diagnoses such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, or other psychological and developmental conditions.

There are several reasons why a cognitive and academic evaluation may be recommended, including:

  1. Diagnostic Clarification: Help identify or better understand conditions such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disorders, executive functioning difficulties, anxiety, depression, or other developmental and psychological concerns.
  2. Assess Cognitive and Academic Functioning: Evaluate areas such as attention, memory, executive functioning, language, problem-solving, reading, writing, and mathematics to better understand an individual's strengths and challenges.
  3. Understand Emotional and Behavioral Factors: Identify emotional, behavioral, developmental, learning, or environmental factors that may be contributing to difficulties at home, school, work, or in relationships.
  4. Determine Eligibility for Accommodations and Support Services: Provide documentation and recommendations that may assist with educational accommodations, workplace supports, specialized services, or treatment planning when appropriate.
  5. Guide Treatment and Educational Planning: Develop individualized recommendations based on the individual's unique profile of strengths and challenges to support success across settings.

  1. Initial Consultation: The evaluation begins with an interview where detailed information is gathered about medical history, developmental milestones, educational background, and specific concerns.
  2. Testing:
    1. Cognitive Assessments: These tests assessment various cognitive functions, including memory, attention, language, executive functions, and problem-solving skills. The tests are tailored to the client's age and developmental level.
    2. Academic Assessments: Measures the client’s academic skills to identify any learning difficulties or gaps.
    3. Behavioral and Emotional Assessments: Includes questionnaires and observations to assess mood, behavior, and social interactions.
  3. Feedback Session:
    1. Results Review: Following the assessment, the psychologist will integrate information from interviews, testing, rating scales, records, and observations to develop a comprehensive understanding of the individual's functioning. During the feedback session, findings are reviewed in detail, diagnostic impressions are discussed, and questions from the individual or family are addressed.
    2. Recommendations: Based on the evaluation findings, personalized recommendations are provided to support success at home, school, work, and in daily life. Recommendations may include accommodations, educational supports, treatment options, executive functioning strategies, or referrals for additional services when appropriate.
