Heather Headley, Psy. D.

Director of Assessment

Dr. Heather Headley is a licensed clinical psychologist in Richmond, Virginia, specializing in comprehensive psychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. Her practice focuses on neurodevelopmental and psychoeducational assessment, providing clarity for concerns such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Dyslexia, and executive functioning challenges. Beyond identifying learning and developmental profiles, Dr. Headley specializes in complex diagnostic clarification: helping adults and families untangle the “why” behind persistent emotional, behavioral, or academic struggles. Whether the goal is to gain a deeper understanding of one’s own cognitive and emotional patterns or to determine eligibility for specialized services and accommodations, she provides the data-driven insights necessary to move forward with confidence.

Dr. Headley approaches every evaluation as a collaborative process designed to answer the most pressing questions about a person’s functioning. She believes that a well-executed evaluation does more than provide a diagnosis; it offers a deeper understanding of one’s unique strengths and provides a practical roadmap for the future. Drawing on her experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in academic medical centers and complex federal institutions, she is committed to providing reports that serve as a functional tool for physicians, therapists, and educators to coordinate more effective care.

She earned her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Marshall University and has practiced in a wide range of diverse clinical settings, including high-acuity federal correctional environments. This background in rigorous diagnostic environments, combined with specialized postdoctoral-level training in the clinical interpretation of neuropsychological data, allows her to offer a sophisticated understanding of how brain-behavior relationships impact daily life.

A unique cornerstone of Dr. Headley’s expertise is her four-year tenure supporting college students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. By assisting students with self-advocacy and the critical transition to higher education and independent living, she gained a longitudinal perspective on neurodiversity. She understands that a diagnosis is not a static label, but a dynamic profile that presents differently at every stage of life. This experience allows her to provide families with future-focused recommendations and helps adults navigate the unique nuances of neurodivergence in professional and interpersonal settings.

A Virginia native, Dr. Headley is proud to serve the Central Virginia community and sees clients at Virginia Psychology’s Richmond office. Outside of her clinical work, she is an avid traveler who enjoys discovering new cultures and perspectives—an interest that mirrors her curiosity about the unique stories of the individuals she meets in her practice. Closer to home, she can often be found exploring Richmond’s food scene, spending time outdoors, or enjoying a scoop of Gelati Celesti ice cream.
